A LONG established furniture shop in Leigh has closed its doors.
Holmes Brothers moved into its premises in Broadway West in 1945 but was established in 1921.
It was set to celebrate its 90 years of trading this year.
The shop is all closed up and there was no answer on the business phone number.
The family-run business offered an extensive range of furniture.
Pat Holden, Leigh town councillor said; “I was at school with one of the original owner’s sons. That’s really sad . Its one of the real institutions of the town.
“Traders do seem to be going through a bad time, but I thought up to now Leigh was bucking the trend and doing fairly well.”
The parade has seen the closure of Café Cult and the old fashioned toy shop which was due to open as a tanning salon but has still not opened.
