i knew who it would be before i read this story, then i saw the name, bang on the money, is she really a nurse ?

For one thing why was a nurse allowed to do a Lumber puncture, which is described as a " sensitive operation" and WHY is anurse being reffered to as a " registrant"?

Apart from that, this case just illustrates, again, the shocking state of the nhs. with cases that have happened over the past few years, particularly Stafford hospital, where food was routinely put out of patients reach. WHY? it does not take ANY extra effort to put the tray a few inches closer, and anyone who does this clearly has a sadistic turn of mind. And WHY don`t the sisters on these wards act like the person in charge that they are supposed to be and clamp down hard on nurses or health assistants who do this?
Or are they too busy being " best buddies" with their colleages!!

l spend some time in Germany, and this type of thing would simply not be tolerated. lF it happened, there would be one warning and if it happened again they would be out.

Then, there have been cases in both Southend and Basildon Hospitals, where staff did not know how to use a breathing tube, or it was broken/switched off,unbelievable, or maybe not!! l read this in the Echo a while ago. Patients in Stafford hospital, and others, left lying in their own urine and faeces, or so dehydrated that they were drinking water from flower vases!
Not to mention arrogant doctors who didn`t listen to patients` concerns about their own children, one mother had FOUR visits from different doctors NONE of whom listened, they ALL thought she was over reacting, typical, and THEIR CHILD DIED AS A RESULT OF THESE DOCTORS` ARROGANCE AND INCOMPETENCE.

Even a recent report said that, too many times, when a patient wants to make a complaint then that is the end of the conversation, when it SHOULD be the beginning!
And this is the country that goes fighting in other people wars for democracy, and look at the disgusting things that have been happening in our hospitals, in THIS COUNTRY. A DISGACEFUL AND DISHONEST ATTITUDE..

Great sweeping judgement- couldn't possibly be that meningitis is actually very difficult to seperate from all the usual viruses etc. and these doctors got it wrong (who on here has never made a mistake at work??) and will probably be regretting it for the rest of their lives?

Agree with Almeda Nurses do not perform lumbar punctures - this is a doctor's responsibility. The nurse would set up trolley, assist doctor but above all comfort and observe the patient.
If any of the allegations are true about this nurse she should be struck off the register and sent back to her own country as she would have no reason to have a visa to work here.
If she has done this she should be absolutely ashamed of herself and any student nurse who has been "taught" or "supervised" by her should be given retraining on whatever she has signed she has supervised the unfortunate student nurse involved.

Ok got more accurate facts off another site
A registrar (senior doctor) was performing the lumbar puncture. The baby was being held by a student nurse and the disgusting nurse in question was supposed to be holding the specimen jar for the registrar to put the spinal fluid in but as it says she cleared off so the baby had to suffer a further lumbar puncture because of her irresponsible and totally unprofessional behaviour Meanwhile the student nurse had to comfort the baby and was in all probability very upset to see this baby suffer unnecessarily.
