Shopkeeper threatened with knife in full view of police

TWO would be robbers threatened a shopkeeper at knifepoint in front of police officers.

The pair are now in custody after being arrested by officers who were already in the Happy Shopper in Jesmond Road, Grays, at around 9.50pm on Saturday, January 5, following reports of a theft in the store about half-an-hour earlier at 9.20pm.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “While officers were inside the shop two men entered and threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded money.”

A 19-year-old man from Grays was arrested at the scene while the other, aged 21, from Dagenham, was arrested in nearby Springfield Road following a search.

Both remain in custody.

Im sure we have all said at some point 'wheres the police when you need them' and this was 1 of those times and they were right there! Feel sorry for the shopkeeper but so happy for him that the police were in the place at the time!

That was easy. Perhaps the police should pop into stores more often.

I think that could have been the first time they have been out of the station since before Christmas. So you see chaps it does work actually getting out and doing some work!

If it's the 19 year old I think it is from Grays, then yes he is one of the most stupidest people on this planet.

Did the shop have cctv as I would love to see that video, perhaps echo reports could follow this up? Do the reporters even read these comments?

That is why they are crims they are so thick they always get caught.

They will probably get locked up and will lay in bed until mid day because they are also lazy.

And when released from bird they will live off benefit payments because they are parasites.

To all the do gooder's please find an answer because I have one.

I agree. We have created a society whereby crime and breeding are both a a career and a revenue stream for those who are lazy.

Come on then, lets hear it. I'm betting on it being rehabilitation through education.

Rumour has it the robbers thought the old bill were in fancy dress just stopping to buy a bottle for the party?
The robber who tried to get away thought the police car parked outside was done up to good for a copy!!!!

Join up then...you wouldn't last five minutes! Christmas? Oh that time they all spent away from their families to ensure you had a nice time! They give us everything including their lives when required...the least you could do is give a little respect back!

Best laugh I have had for a long while .... well done.

How do you know I wasn't at one time in the force?
I was talking about Essex Police at Grays Station, not REAL Police.
The Grays Police are about as effective as a chocolate teapot!

A woman on the bus today was talking on her phone (far too loudly, I might add) about how she has to look after one of their dogs now.

Just execute the lot of them!
