Updated: Staff at Basildon petrol pump manufacturer evacuated following gas leak

HUNDREDS of staff members were evacuated from a Basildon company following reports of a gas leak.
Firefighters were called to the Gilbarco factory and office in Crompton Close shortly before 10.30am today after employees began complaining of a strong smell of gas.
They spent an hour at the scene before engineers from National Grid arrived to isolate the gas supply.
