"Missing" burglar avoids jail

A WOMAN who burgled two homes during a major missing person search for her after she was seen being dragged into a car has avoided prison.

Drug addict Kariss Clarke, 23, from New Waverley Road, Noak Bridge, admitted breaking into two homes in Ilford with boyfriend Jimmy McCann in April.

The crimes took place during a high-profile police search reported in the Echo which was sparked after a witness saw her assaulted and dragged into a black Jaguar in Seaview Avenue, Vange, at 9.30pm on Friday, April 13.

Clarke appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court where she was sentenced to a two-year supervision order.

This includes a six-month drug rehabilitation referal order and a separate education programme.

In September McCann, 30, from Hovefields Avenue, Wickford, was jailed for 28 months after he admitted his part in the burglaries soon after Clarke’s disappearance.

The burglaries happened while Essex Police’s serious crime squad was trying to trace the pair amid fears Kariss had been kidnapped.

She was reported after a resident said he saw her being assaulted by a man and bundled into the car.

The car, which turned out to have been stolen during a burglary in Ongar days earlier, was found dumped in Vange two days later.

It sparked a two-week missing person inquiry, involving a search of Canvey Marshes.

However, it was scaled down after Clarke contacted relatives by telephone.

Later, the pair were arrested in Forest Gate, near Ilford, after the burglaries.

They admitted entering a property in Cranley Drive, Ilford, with the intention of burgling it and pleaded guilty to a burglary in Springfield Drive, Ilford, the following day, where cash was taken.

Clarke was interviewed about the theft of the Jaguar, but released without charge. McCann has been bailed in connection with the offence.

When two or more set out on a joint criminal enterprise, why are they not charged with a Conspiracy charge?

Much stiffer penalties for that one and given the circumstances there is very little defence possible.

We have the laws in place it's just the idiotic CPS and judiciary who refuse to apply them.

These scumbags need locking away for years.

It would have been cheaper to have locked this low life up!

At least they would know where she was. Wonder how long before she re-offends?

Now if only I could recall what social grouping lives there in non brick dwellings.
They are one which claims to be a particular grouping of people oh Mincy knows the name it just escapes me.

Heather Fellows, mitigating for Clarke, said she is determined to get the help she needs to beat her drug addiction, which is the main cause of her offending.
Just to avoid confusion, that wasn't from this case. It was from 2 years ago when she got sent to prison for 4 months.

His dad Gerry McCann is famous as he was in the Daily Mail for keeping slaves. Like John Wild 56. Mum was pocketing Wild's benefits.

Jimmy has history for damaging a car wash at a garage. Fined £600.

Now what were you saying about a positive contribution to society? s

Oh thanks for that Nebs. This is the family where the mum simply 'forgot' she owned a £230,000 house bought for cash (whilst she was on benefits) and was still claiming to be potless and homeless and in need of a free pitch.

Yes that rings a bell.

Lovely people..wish they were my neighbours...NOT!

Has she agreed to the rehab because she wants to get clean, or because it will keep her out of prison? I expect it's the latter and she'll be back in front of the courts before the six months is up.

I think I know but cannot tell as the P word is no longer acceptable following many months of harassment of the Echo staff by the clown formerly known as Mincer.

Then baton down the scum. That this low-life is free today beggars belief. What exactly do you have to do to get banged up these days- other that to protest against the government?

I have no idea, the only thing you actually get locked up for now adays is murder/manslaughter it seems. Even then there out usually within 10-20 years, for some people there out of prison for murder before there 40. Quite scary.

In America car jacking/pursuits which is assualt with a deadly weapon if you hit someone, carries between 10-20 years. in England usually a community order or a small prison sentence. Its so stupid the justice system in England that you could actually laugh at it.
