Man to appear in court after attempted robbery of Pitsea bookmakers

A MAN will appear in later today after charged with the attempted robbery of a bookmakers in Pitsea.

Police were contacted shortly before 4pm on Monday (October 29) following reports that staff at William Hill on Rectory Road had detained a man who had tried to commit a robbery at the venue.

Officers arrived and arrested Kevin Williams, 30, of The Slades, Basildon before subsequently charging him with one count of attempted robbery and one count of being in possession of a knife in a public place.

He has been detained in police custody and will appear at Southend Magistrates Court today.
