Southend gears up for Christmas

A WINTER wonderland is set to emerge in Southend in the run-up to Christmas.

The fun begins with a Christmas Spectacular on Saturday November 17 when the lights will be switched on.

Families can enjoy a series of events on the High Street from 8.30am until 5.30pm including a parade involving Santa and his real live reindeer. The parade will start at Victoria Circus at 1pm.

There will also be roaming performers, a fires show, and then fireworks will be set off at 5.30pm.

A Christmas Farmers and Craft Market  will also be in the High Street Saturday from November 17 to  December 22 as well as Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th December .

On December 1, a festive fun day will be held from 11am until 4pm with street performers, Christmas workshops and face painting for children, a Santa cycle ride, and he Arriva ‘Story Bus’.

the quality of 'journlisam' in many of today's stories is very low in my opinion.

It's almost as if they've got a twelve year old in to do the job while everyone else is down the pub!

That don't sound like a 'Winter wonderland' to me, now if they did make the effort and do a real winter wonderland it would be worth shouting about.

I feel sorry for the shops at the top of the High Street. They plod along all year, and then when the busy time starts the council stick a load of stalls selling foul smelling food right outside their shops.
