RESIDENTS have faced more than a week of chaos after engineers began major gas works without warning.

Workmen from National Grid arrived unannounced at The Links, Billericay, last Tuesday, October 16, to replace the gas main for the surrounding area.

Some people living in the quiet cul-de-sac claim they have been unable to get off their driveways due to huge pieces of the road and path being dug up over the past ten days.

Other homes were left without a gas supply for more than 24 hours at a time.
Tony Skingsley, 60, said: “It’s been a bit of a saga really. I only arrived home from holiday on the Saturday night and on the Tuesday morning the chaos began. There have been holes and trenches appear in pathways everywhere and cars have even been stranded in their garages. A lot of people have no other option but to rely on their cars so it’s vital they can access their driveway.

“There has been no forward planning and no work was carried out in advance to locate gas meters and old gas pipework so this resulted in even more problems.”

Residents were sent a letter in August telling them that the major work would be carried out in the near future, but they claim no specific date was given.

Yet another piece of rubbish reporting by the Echo. What do National Grid have to say in their defence, assuming they were asked?...and what the hell has Tony Skingsley's return from holiday 3 days before the work started got to do with it?

On reflection, is this in fact an advert for a new sitcom? The photograph of the four stooges seems to suggest it is, or is it a new quiz show, "Spot the brain cell?"

Poor them - when National Grid/Forefront dug up Long Riding in Basildon, there was no notice, no warning - just weeks of chaos... And today - again, without notice - they've closed the road at the junction with Timberlog Lane... No notice or warning, causing the buses to have to divert all the way around.

But yes, poor inconvenienced Billericay cul de sac...

Not half as chaotic as if the gas main blew up due to not being replaced. Let them get on with the work, although if the workmen read this then they will probably put you at the bottom of the priority list and take twice as long as normal.
