£300million plan for Southend - but you can't see it

COUNCIL chiefs have drawn up firm plans for a £300million regeneration of Southend’s town centre - but the public isn’t allowed to see them yet.
Bosses at Southend Council have identified 19 key sites throughout the heart of the town and seafront which they want to see transformed into new shops, homes, offices, car parks and public squares.
The authority teamed up with BV Strategies, a property investment firm with an estimated £6billion portfolio, last year to try to drive the plans forward.
They have now finalised a list of projects which they want BV to fund, but claim the “sensitive” nature of the deal means it cannot be openly discussed at this stage.
However, ahead of a secretive meeting with councillors behind closed doors on Tuesday night, a senior council source said: “There is nothing particularly controversial about these projects.
“The principle of it was laid out last year, and this is simply a case of moving forward with the proposals and taking these ideas to BV.”
