Crews called to Hinguar School in Shoebury after builder's container set alight

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a school after a container was set alight.

Just before 3.30am this morning, Southend and Shoebury crews went to the new Hinguar school site in Ashes Road, Shoebury, after the blaze started in a builder's container used as a site shed.

They donned breathing apparatus and used one hose to tackle the fire in the 3metre by 6metre building.

It took them an hour to extinguish it and a further 30 minutes was spent turning the embers over and damping down to ensure there were no more hotspots.

An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fire.
