Yobs banned from going out at Christmas...following CCTV of street brawl (From Southend Standard)

Community orders. What a disgrace.but 4 years each and all the yobs will think different and sit up and say "is it worth it for 4 years" Crime would drop quickly with the correct sentencing.

Plus, when they get out, they wont be able to get a job because of their record and would most likely resort to more crime. It then becomes a viscious circle with no positive end product.
I dont have the answer, but prison for everything is not the right way. Perhaps national service for example would be better..............

Im not saying that people that fight should be jailed. The echo used the word YOBS. If a person hits you for nothing then hit back, but the photos look like a gang of bullys scum and shhite. These kind of scum need locking up, not normal people. Scum bullys these were and if u watch the film they were absolutley horrible vile trouble makers and 4 years would have been ideal .

Fair enough for the first offender, let them off prison and give them a bit of community payback and hope they change. But for those with previous convictions, letting them off hasn't worked. Build more prisons, and make the criminals work to pay for their board and lodging while inside just like the rest of the country have to pay their way.

The trouble with your argument though Smiffy is that these yobs know about it. They are well aware that there is little deterrent, so carry on with their yobbish behaviour. Why are 28 and 32 year old men behaving like absolute idiots? Because there is no deterrent; no punishment. Four years seems a bit strong, but a few weeks, steadily increasing for repeat offences seems appropriate.

I don't buy in to the argument that all the prisons would be full and so what if they are. Let them be less comfortable. If it was a proper deterrent, then people would think twice about committing the offence. Capacity at prisons would then even out. We need more prisons anyway as the general population has increased,, and so there should be a increase in Her Majesty's prisons to reflect that.

Correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it if you are convicted in a court of law you get a criminal record whether you get a custodial sentence or a community order.

Of course you get a C.R. These scum after watching the cctv deserved to be jailed. They aint braindead 16 year old hoodys, these people are fully mature adults with the brains of 16 year olds. They deserved to be jailed after watching the film. No detterent so these mongrels know that. and

crime will rise until the courts and justice systems get a brain and show them that this bully behaviour is not acceptable.

The courts jail shoplifters quicker than bullys causing trouble.

Smiffy1980 said that if you lock them up when they come out they won't be able to get a job because of their record. The point I was trying to make was that even though they didn't get locked up they still get a record. Obviously that didn't come across in my first comment.

As to why is costs north of 40K pa to keep someone locked in a cell is beyond me.

I was once involved in a incident like this when I was 18. It happened in Corringham town centre. There was 3 of us, and another gang of boys about 5 of them, came up to us, and said we had sex with one of their girlfriends. One of them punched my mate, and before you know it, 8 of us was fighting, punching and kicking each other. Funny enough we got the upper hand, even though they had 2 boys more. I remember us 3 just kicking this 1 boy in the head for about 10 seconds repeatedly. His other mates sortoff backed off. Thats what you get for messing with us!
