Next operator of c2c line to be delayed

THE winner of a bid to run Southend’s Fenchurch Street railway line may not be revealed for another year, the Government has announced.

A new 15-year deal for the busy commuter line, currently operated by c2c, was due to start next May.

But, in the wake of the controversy over the troubled InterCity West Coast franchise, the Department for Transport suspended all ongoing bidding processes.

Ministers have now asked Virgin to remain as operator for that line for another nine to 13 months, and it is possible that delay could also be passed on to the c2c - or Essex Thameside - line.

Good, hope C2C keep the contract, they are doing a stirling job. Dread if First win the contract after the the mess they've made of Liverpool Street line.
