A man in his twenties was cut out of Audi A4 after crash in Royal Artillery Way, Southend

A MAN escaped serious injury after he lost control of his car and smashed into a ditch.

Firefighters were called to Royal Artillery Way, Southend, at 9.50pm on Monday evening after the silver Audi A4 left the road as it was coming down the hill, spun sideways, hit a tree and ended up in a ditch.

The passenger, a man in his twenties, had managed to get out of the car before crews arrived but the driver, also in his twenties, was trapped.

Firefighters saw the door had crushed him and used cutting equipment to remove the whole driver’s side of the car. Paramedics moved in to give the trapped man first aid and pain relief.

He had suffered an injury to his right leg, believed to be minor, and he was taken to Southend Hospital for further treatment.

The road was closed until just after midnight while police carried out their investigations.

One person was reported for driving offences.

Quelle Surprise. The limit there is 50 is it not? Maybe they were stunt men.

20 year + Audi = crash. Thanks to morons such as these most of the 127 is subject to a 50 limit.

No sooner is one major route reopened (Sutton Road after the bridge works) that thanks to vehicle drivers they've ended up closing 2 more with their carelessness! Can't say am surprised as I go about my daily life and see some of the things vehicle drivers get up to - wrong lane at the Gateway or at the London Road retail park roundabout, no lights at night etc. How long til the next similar story? My guess is won't have to wait too long!

I would imagine the sort of driver who did this is the same type of person who keeps criticising Rylan Clark on X-Factor and sending him death threats on Twitter. At least I hope it is.

Perhaps there should be less prejudice on the part of some people in Southend Borough.
Is it not possible that you could lose control of a car and spin if you hit a patch of oil on a wet road?
Where does it mention in this article that the driver was speeding?
Just because young people are driving does not automatically mean that they are irresponsible.
Maybe some of you would like to know the ethnicity of the driver so you could further persecute?!?!?!
Disgusting behaviour from adults.

Tut tut tut. It's pretty much a straight bit of road. I drive on this road everyday. That night it was dry and there is no oil there. Well maybe some after his little trip off road. Is this does not come down to speed then it comes down to drink or drugs or **** poor driving. Either way hope he is ok and is dealt with by the police. To many people of all ages use this section of road as a racetrack leaving it till the last minute to dive in to lane 1 at high speed

Lose control going in a straight line on a dual carriageway whilst staying within the speed limit?

Er.......no. Following Shoebury52's comment, I stand by mine.

Morons of the first order. Take away their licences and don't give them back until they are over 40. Luckily, they aren't dead. Even luckier still, no one else is.

Oh, and by the way, the ditch is on the OTHER side of the road, so I'd suggest excess speed - to have crossed the two lanes he was already in, the central reservation, the two lanes coming up the hill, the grass verge and finally the ditch.

What utter rubbish you are talking. I went to go down this stretch of road on Monday night at around 10:30pm and it was peeing it down! And it had been for some time! It was raining and dark and still at 50mph in the wet can be dangerous especially some of the bumps in the road on the artillery. Theres a huge one that always jolts my little car just after the bend and before the speed camera. If you were not there witnessing the accident how can you possibly know what happened?!?! To even mention drink or drugs when clueless about what has happened is downright daft.

People need to know all the facts b4 judging others, no1 was reported for driving offences, it was raining at the time and lots of other people have crashed there and some have died, they had just gone past the speed camera so no they were not speeding!! I know the people in this accident both r ok just incase u were wondering which is the most important thing don't u think!!
