Mum-to-be urges others to have vital vaccines

A MUM-TO-BE is urging all pregnant women to protect themselves and their unborn child with the latest vaccinations.

Natasha Harmsworth-Blyth has already had her flu jab and is due to have the whooping cough vaccine later this week.

Pregnant women are being reminded by GPs to have the flu jab which is also offered to people over 65 and those with long term health conditions.

Natasha, 23, whose baby is due on October 26, said: “I think it’s so important to do this. These are medically trained professionals advising us what’s best for our unborn child.

“We have these little babies growing inside us and we do the best for them by eating the right things so why not this?

“It takes five seconds to have the injection.”

It should be someone working in public health making these statements.
Not somebody expecting a child.

This is not a new story, it comes up every couple of years.

If you seen the suffering caused by whopping cough specifically in children you would think twice before making inane and caustic comments like this!
Why has the Echo gone to a mother-to-be? Why not a doctor? Or why has the mother-to-be approached the Echo? This type of story would have more gravitas coming from a doctor, and not only that but it's kinda obvious...

My partner is pregnant, and believe me she knows about this vaccine - it's been mentioned by midwives, doctors and nurses every time she goes for an appointment. She'll be having it too - I'm well aware of the effects of whooping cough thank you.

My comment was aimed at the story, not the advice - rather thought it was obvious

Which is why the comment made in the first place has been withdrawn?

Ah, right. Thanks for clearing that up, Olivia. I never realised that some vaccines could contain poisonous substances but it seems Parsnip is right, they can. The mind boggles !
