Girls rescued by rowers off Chalkwell coast

A GROUP of four girls were rescued by rowers after being cut off by the tide near Chalkwell.

The father of one of the girls called the emergency services at about 4.55pm on Thursday after his daughter had phoned him to say she and her friends had been cut off by the tide.

However, a rowing boat which was going past spotted the group and took them back to shore at the Essex Yacht Club in Leigh.

Crew members from Southend Coastguard met with the girls to give them safety advice.
