Southend landlords tackle troublesome tenants

SOUTHEND council has announced its plans to tackle anti-social tenants with the help of lanlords.
The council recently stopped short of implementing a selective licensing scheme, which could have seen landlords pay up to £600 a year to let out each of their properties, in favour of a self-regulated system.
It will now work with the newly formed South East Alliance of Agents and Landlords (SEAL) and other local agencies, including the police, to “achieve similar objectives”.
Jacqui Lansley, Southend Council’s head of community strategy and development, Independent group leader Martin Terry and a residents’ representative will sit on the SEAL board.
The group’s first public meeting will be held at the Civic Centre in Victoria Avenue on Thursday, August 9.

It's not the tenants that are the problem..its the greedy ,soul-less landlords.
Multi-millionares ,big portfolios, don't live in the area just milk the tenant and mug the taxpayer.
The only source of wealth in the uk now is for the rich to abuse the poor.
And the Government approves simply because passing the buck is all too simple.

i agree wholeheartedly.

the powerless, good tenants who pay rent on time and get on with there lives have no protection from landlords who neglect the property they own while raking in the cash.

the council scrap a scheme to offer tenants protection while they bring in a scheme to give landlords more power!!! this sums up the current Tory minority administration in this town to a tee...
