A GRAFFITI vandal who caused £45,000 of damage to trains has been jailed for a year.

Robert Martin, of Branksome Avenue, Hockley, repeatedly sprayed the word "Wear" on trains near Southend Victoria railway station and across Essex.

Officers from British Transport Police caught Martin, 23, as he ran away from fresh graffiti featuring his tag near Southend Victoria.

But he had taken video phone footage of himself carrying out his handiwork and was caught red-handed by police when they checked his mobile phone.

Martin was sentenced today at Basildon Crown Court.
