Hundreds turn out for funeral of respected Southend councillor

A PRITTLEWELL church was packed with mourners for the funeral of Tory councillor Ann Robertson.

Friends, family and colleagues crowded into St Mary’s, in East Street, to deliver touching farewells to Milton Ward councillor Mrs Robertson, 67, who died on January 27 from a suspected brain haemorrhage.

Rochford and Southend East MP James Duddridge and Southend West MP David Amess were among many politicians and dignitaries to attend.

Afterwards, Mr Duddridge said: “She will be sadly missed and her death leaves a hole that will be difficult to fill.”

Mrs Robertson’s is survived by husband Ian, also a Tory councillor, son Russell and daughter Venetia.

Ann, you certainly got the goodbye you deserved, it just all seemed so unreal, even now i still cant believe it.

you should be so proud of Ian, Netia and Russell, they have been so strong and such an inspiration.
I just wish one day i can be in the position to be able to help people, just like you and i think yesterday showed just how many lives you touched.
Rest in Peace Ann
Love Carly xx
