A 17-year-old boy has been punched and kicked during the quarter finals of the World Cup.

The teenager was punched in the face by a man and when the victim fell to the floor, he was then kicked by a number of other people.

The incident took place outside the Downham Arms, in London Road, Wickford, just after 3.45pm on Saturday, July 7.

Detective constable Sam Sheehan of Basildon CID said: “This assault left the victim with facial injuries.

“It happened outside the Downham Arms pub, we know there were a number of people in the area at the time, who may have seen something but have yet to come forward.”

No arrests have been made. Nobody else was injured.
