Primary school pupils from Southend have taken part in a festival of remembrance for the First World War.

Throughout the week children had the chance to learn more about the sacrifices people made during the war.

Pupils had also made poppies which were laid on war graves in the borough.

It was part of Southend Schools Festival of Remembrance.

Children from Hinguar Community and Primary School and the nursery in Southend attended at St Andrew with St Peter, Shoeburyness.

Pupils from The St Christopher School, Leigh, attended Sutton Road Cemetery.

Students from West Leigh Infants School and the junior school attended Leigh Cemetery.

They were joined by veterans. Project manager Beth Hooper, said: “This has allowed young and old to come together to find out about our past.”
