Runners across south Essex are warming up to get stuck in to this year’s Southend Race for Life.

Hundreds of women dressed head-to-toe in pink will step out this Sunday at Garon’s Park, Southend, to run, jog, or walk five kilometres with one aim - to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research.

The race is due to kick off at 11am, with spectators able to watch from the sidelines around the course or browse the stalls and activities that will be available throughout the event.

Many of the people will run the race in memory of a loved one lost to breast cancer, and previous years have shown competitors wearing dedicated t-shirts or even fancy dress to celebrate the lives of those loved and lost.

The entire route is contained within the Garon’s Park site, and runners will complete two laps, starting at the showground where there will be free entertainment for an hour before the race for all runners in attendance.

Free parking will be available at the site, with the First Bus group also offering routes to Garon’s Park.

Make sure you don’t miss out on The Echo’s special eight page picture supplement on Monday, which will feature some of the highlights and those never to be forgotton moments during Sunday’s event.

The Met Office forecast predicts perfect running conditions, with a slightly overcast morning giving way to beautiful sunny skies with temperatures hitting a high of around 15 degrees celsius.
