A NIGHTCLUB is introducing new measures as part of a £250,000 refurbishment in a bid to keep clubbers safe.

Unit 7, in Festival Leisure Park, Basildon, will be launching their new We Care initiative later this month which will see uniformed ambassadors be introduced into the club to help customers.

Colin Goodwin, Unit 7’s general manager, said: “Creating a great night out for our customers is our main priority and safety is at the forefront of this. Our We Care initiative is designed to give customers all the tools they need for a fun but safe night out.”

Customer Care Ambassadors will be dressed in red and available to offer any help to clubbers should they need it. The scheme will also see the introduction of a free handbag cloakroom service, free phone-charging stations in the cloakrooms and access to a landline free of charge for those who have lost their phones.

Staff have also been trained to look out for vulnerable customers, offer support and question anyone leaving the venue alone.

The move comes after the club recently faced a review of its licence as concerns were raised about the safety of customers.

It resulted in a number of conditions being imposed by Basildon Council including mandatory searching on entry, a review of all the mirrors inside the club and that all incidents are recorded and reported to the emergency services where necessary.

The club will also be offering a taxi escort service for vulnerable individuals.

As well as the new safety initiatives, the club has also used the £250,000 investment from owners the Deltic Group, has also been used to revamp the room which was formerly known as the Studio. The room has been refurbished with an illuminated dancefloor and will be playing pop classics and guilty pleasures from this Friday.

Mr Goodwin added: “We can’t wait to reveal Vinyl and get the party started. We are confident it’s going to be pick of the pops, with hits from the 80s, 90s and 00s. We’ve got booths with inflatable guitars and dress-up items to make every night a night to remember.”
