A BAND who claim to be "the only Fall tribute band in the world" will be playing at the Railway Hotel this Saturday, April 21, "celebrating the life and work of Mark E Smith".

Entry is free to see The Faux, who are based in Southend, but donations will be collected to be given direct to the late front man's family to use as they see fit.

Mark E. Smith died of lung and kidney cancer on Wednesday, January 24.

The Fall are regarded as one of the most important and influential post-punk bands. Although Smith was notoriously difficult to work with, he was revered by fans and critics during his lifetime, and was described as a "strange kind of antimatter national treasure" in the Independent newspaper.

Front man of the Faux, Steve E. 'Militant' (real name Millington), said: "Like Van Gogh, Mark E Smith will be remembered posthumously and I’ve no hesitation putting him into that category, certainly as a free thinker.

"There will be other Johnny Rottens, possibly another Elvis but never another Mark E. Smith."

The night takes place at the pub in Clifftown Road, from 8pm.

Support comes from the Fleas, and spoken word artist (also from Southend), Left Tenant Spillage.

The Faux are: Steve E Militant, Rob Boor, Ian Watson and Dave Nevard.
