BRAND new images of how a state-of-the-art £300million town centre development will look have been revealed in a new bird’s eye video.

Southend Council released a “fly-through” video of the proposed Better Queensway development in Southend thanks to computer-generated images.

The video showcases how the current land and buildings will be transformed into high-quality flats, a business area and shop space.

Next week, the council will launch a bid to find a development partner to take forward the project with the council.

Plans include 1,300 new homes, including more than 441 affordable homes, highways improvements and better access to the High Street and Southchurch Road. The video gives a glimpse of a range of high-quality apartment complexes to take the place of town centre tower blocks, which will be pulled down.

Existing council tenants on the site will be offered the chance to return.

Ann Holland, councillor responsible for culture, tourism and the economy, said: “This is the largest and most exciting regeneration scheme being undertaken in the borough since the 1960’s.

“It has the potential to completely transform this key town centre site, and so it is vital for local people and businesses that we get this right.

“That is why we have taken the time to consult and engage with a variety of stakeholders and went through the formal public consultation at the end of 2017 which has enabled us to get to this stage.

“I am very pleased that we have now got to this stage and we look forward to starting the official search for a development partner next week.

“Whilst this procurement process will take some time and go into 2019, it is absolutely right that we don’t rush it.”
