Passengers are frustrated by the "lack of communication" coming out of Southend Airport as flights are being delayed by the snow.

As a result of the continued flurries in south Essex, Southend Airport and terminals across Europe have been forced to delay flights and even close.

In among one of the most concerning incidents, a flight from Southend to Geneva, Switzerland, continued to be listed as on time, however, the airport was in fact closed.

One passenger, who was flying from the airport aired his frustration on social media about the Geneva flight.

He said: "It was a pain as we were given no advance notice as the weather turned at Southend and then when Geneva Airport had closed.

"After that, there were some updates about the situation, there could always be more but I have experienced much worse."

The passenger added that while waiting for their flight, EasyJet staff handed out chocolate and sweets to people in the terminal.

Yesterday morning, the runway was closed again due to the snow.

Following the issues surrounding the communication to passengers about delayed or cancelled flights, Southend Airport have said that passengers should contact the airline providing their flight for updates.

A spokesman for Southend Airport, said: “We fully recognise and share the disappointment and frustrations of our customers with any flight cancellations or delays they may have experienced.

"This weather we are currently experiencing is exceptional, and so is causing problems across the UK and Europe, all of which is having a knock-on effect to operations to and from Southend.

"We have, and will continue to, do our very best to keep people updated via our website as soon as we ourselves receive relevant information.

"However, we would urge people to keep checking with their airline, as it is they who make all the decisions regarding the flights they operate – and not the airport – so have the very latest information to share with their customers.”
