A SCHOOL has opened a new bespoke teaching block for foreign languages.

Mayflower High School, in Stock Road, Billericay, unveiled its new Modern Foreign Languages teaching block with John Baron, MP for Basildon and Billericay. on hand to cut the red ribbon.

The new block will contain six new classrooms for students to learn French, Spanish and German, based behind the school’s sixth form centre.

Following the unveiling, Lee Brumby, headteacher at the school, said: “I am delighted to take the school one step further with the development of a further block of six classrooms to house the Modern Foreign Language Department.

“At Mayflower High School, we are always looking to offer the very best experience we can for our students, with both education and facilities.”

The project was led by construction consultants, Ingleton Wood and was funded with support from the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), a government fund which helps schools on small projects and expansions.

Mr Baron was very proud to be invited to unveil the new block.

He said: “Congratulations go to the whole team at Mayflower School for overseeing this excellent initiative, and to the Government for providing most of the funds.

“This new language block will build on the excellent facilities offered by the school generally, and will contribute further to its outstanding teaching capabilities.

“I look forward to continuing to support the school’s progress.”

Paul Cavalier, partner at Ingleton Wood’s Billericay office, also attended Friday’s opening.

He added: “We’re particularly pleased to have secured money through the CIF because it’s a very competitive process.

“By using contemporary, modular construction techniques we were able to complete the work in just four months and ensure the classrooms would be ready to use for the start of the new school term.

“It’s always rewarding when projects such as these come to fruition and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to provide a state-of-the-art facility that will benefit students and staff for many years to come.”
