A car has crashed into a petrol station in Basildon.

The collision happened on the forecourt of the Sainsbury's in Nethermayne earlier today.

A woman who was in the petrol station when the incident happened, said: "I was filling up at pump number eight, the Fiesta was next to me at pump number seven.

"After the driver had paid for their petrol, they got in and tried to pull away but they hit the car in the pump next to them and smashed into the petrol pump.

"It is lucky that they did not seriously hurt someone.

"A man who owned a van in the petrol station had to jump at the way otherwise he would have been crushed by the car and the pump."

The crash happened at around 9.50am and the station in Cricketers Way has been closed ever since.

The bronze Ford Fiesta smashed into a petrol pump after pulling away from filling up.

The car hit another vehicle at another before crashing through the pump.

Police and fire attended but no one was injured.

Staff and the Fiesta are still at the scene and the public are warned not to enter the petrol station for their safety.
