Canvey needs a third road quickly

WITH reference to your article about a third access road for Canvey.

With the overdevelopment of Canvey there has never been a more pressing reason for another access to and from Canvey.

There is a road for emergency traffic that exists, it goes from Northwick Corner to the end of Northwick Road over Horse ferry creak and comes out at the Pitsea Flyover. If that is upgraded, it could serve as a third access.

What is really needed is the phase 2 and 3 extensions to Roscommon way to Canvey seafront with immediate effect and no more development on Canvey until that is done.

It takes just over half an hour to commute by train from London to Benfleet. It can take another half an hour to get through Canvey due to overdevelopment and the roads being gridlocked through lack of infrastructure, God forbid if there was a major incident at either of the “Top Tier” COMAH sites of Oikos and Calor Gas.

Castle Point Council planners should stop treating Canvey like Cinderella in favour of the mainland districts of Castle Point’s ugly sisters.

Street lights still not being fixed

IT is now 12 months since I, among others, reported to Castle Point council and Essex County council a street light not working, it is still not working.

The legal departments of each council are arguing about who owns the light.

Since reporting this the next light stopped working. That was reported four months ago. It too is still not working.

I suggested the people who paid for the installation of these lights and who paid for the power these lights would have used if they were working is the owner.

Park and ride free for pass holders

I BELIEVE that David Dearle (Echo,Wednesday September 6) should have mentioned in his letter that holders of the national senior bus card are not charged to ride on park and ride buses in most towns.

Certainly both Chelmsford and Colchester, and, according to their website Brighton also do not charge. Perhaps he didn’t ask.

Sanctions will not calm N Korea’s Kim

IF it were not so serious the situation with North Korea would be hilarious. A tiny Asian country that has endured endless UN sanctions is now holding the worlds biggest economy, never mind the rest of us, to ransom. Reminds me of the adage that “if you have a man by the balls his heart and mind will surely follow”. Also the movie of a long time ago, “The Mouse that Roared”

The USA’s response is to sanction countries doing business with N Korea. I think Trump should be reminded that 90 per cent of N Korea’s international trade is with China, so is it feasible that China, who run a monumental trade surplus with the US is going to comply? Dear old Vlad the Impaler made a comment that will resonate with those who were expected to capitulate under the torrent of Hitler’s bombs that sanctions are useless as Kim Jong Un ‘will eat grass rather than give up his nukes’.

The only things that makes sense to me is to offer Kim assistance on the scale of that given to Germany post WW2 in exchange for not precipitating WW3. Bear in mind that there are various UN agencies in N Korea who are begging for humanitarian aid to a population that is very severely stressed.

Start treating our visitors properly

WE need a council and we need helpful councillors, but surely they should be working with the traders as a team, not as a dictatorship.

We all know the problems in the Seaway car park, trying to find a machine that works & coaches being refused parking in any space they can find.

They have also halved the parking machines down the Seafront.

I went to the Arches, where the machine near the toilets has been removed. The next machine was out of order.

I had to walk past Rossi to find a machine that did work. When I got back, their was a lady that parked next to me, did not have a badge, but was unable to walk the distance, so I walked back again to get her a ticket at £1.60 for one hour parking.

I really believe that the Council wants to make it as difficult as possible for visitors to come to our town.

No free disabled parking for visitors outside Southend, two- hour queues along the A127, No coaches allowed, No spaces to park at peak times, no respect for the elderly, dangerous shared spaces and chaotic roadworks everywhere.

Still, it can only get better?

Our lovely event by the seaside

I WOULD just like to reply to Alan Ingram’s letter on Monday September 4.

He thanked me for organising the ‘’T” by the Sea event at the Bandstand on Canvey on Sunday August 27.

It was run by the Rotary Club of Canvey Island and organised by fellow Rotarians Tony Clarke and Sue Hampson and I was just a helper on the day.

Thank you anyway Alan and glad you enjoyed the afternoon, which I hope many others did too.

Hope to see you next year.
