A ZUMBA group has donated all of the money it raised from the Thorney Bay raft race to charity.

Zumba with Jodie, which meets on the island, raised £338 from its efforts in the popular rafting competition, which will go to Canvey Bay Watch.

Jodie Lewis, who runs the group, said: “I wanted to put something back into the community as the raft day itself was a community day.

“If it wasn’t for Canvey Bay Watch I wouldn’t have entered the race.

“The beach used to be such a mess and dangerous with all the rocks. I wouldn’t have considered entering.

“Thanks to Canvey Bay Watch I spend so much time on the beach with my family now. It’s clean and much safer, so when I heard about the race I was more than up for it as it was a chance to get my Zumba ladies and their families involved with the community.

“Our beach is going from strength to strength and the more we can put back into to it, the more we can all enjoy it.

“They are doing such good work and they are all volunteers.”
