A MAN was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance after officers closed a road to deal with a man on the wrong side of a footbridge.
Emergency response officers were called to Broadmayne in Basildon shortly after 6pm yesterday following reports that a man was the wrong side of the footbridge which goes over the road at Whitmore Way.
The road was closed between Ghyllgrove and the Gore and Timberlog Lane at the junction with Broadmayne.
Officers engaged with the man and spent considerable time persuading him to climb back over.
He was brought to safety at 7.30pm and the road reopened.
A 49-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and was later handed a £90 fixed penalty ticket.
The man has 28 days to pay it or faces going to court.
