A 60-YEAR-OLD woman has been rescued from the Canvey mud flats after being spotted by a passer-by.
The woman was stuck around 15m from the seal wall near the Canvey Creek.
She suffered suspected hypothermia and has been taken to hospital.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters rescued a 60-year-old woman who was stuck in mud near the Canvey Creek.
"A passerby raised the alarm when they spotted the woman approx. 15 metres away from the sea wall.
"Firefighters made their way across the mud flats, wrapped the woman up in a foil blanket and carried her back to the waiting ambulance.
The woman was left in the care of the ambulance service at 4:15pm."
The woman was treated by an ambulance crew before being taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital with suspected hypothermia.
The Coastguard confirmed that they had received a call about the woman, but their assistance was not required.
They were stood down before they got there as the woman had already been recovered from the mud flats.
