THE proud parents of baby Lara Wright certainly have an unforgettable story to tell their daughter about the eventful night she was born.

It all started when Natasha Wright was at home watching television in Basildon.

Mrs Wright, who at the time was 13 days overdue, started to experience contractions which prompted husband Matt to spring into action and race her to Basildon Hospital.

In the dash to maternity, the pair’s trip was interrupted at about 11.30pm as PC Alun Causaker, who was also driving along Nethermayne in an unmarked police vehicle, saw the Wright’s Volkswagen Bora, shoot past him in the inside lane.

When it became clear that Mrs Wright’s situation was an emergency, PC Causaker escorted the expectant couple to the hospital and arrived there just in the nick of time.

However the drama did not end there.

There were complications during the birth which saw Lara become double wrapped in the umbilical cord and stuck in her mother’s pelvis.

Weighing in at nine pounds 14 ounces, Lara finally was able to make her entrance into the world at 1.15am.

Yet, shortly after the baby’s birth, her exhausted mum started haemorrhaging and lost a litre of blood, prompting a flurry of activity from doctors and nurses.

Thankfully, both mother and baby are fine and at home in Littlebury Court.

Mrs Wright says she is extremely grateful for the help of the police and the hospital throughout her daughter’s eventful birth.

She said: “We just can’t believe it all happened like that, and we are very happy just to be home.

“When it all started, we were just at home watching X Factor, and then the contractions started.

“We were offered a midwife to come to our house, but given what happened, we were so lucky we went to the hospital.

“When we were driving to the hospital, and we could see the lights of the police car, I just assumed it would pass us and carry on.

“It was only when my husband said ‘I don’t believe it’, that I knew it was for us.

“PC Causaker was absolutely fantastic, and his help to get us to the hospital so quickly made a big difference.

“Lara was born in the consulting room, as there wasn’t enough time. She certainly made an eventful entrance into the world.”
