A CHILDREN’S charity has been entered into a football club competition to win a chance of fundraising at Premier League Chelsea’s next match.

The Danny Green Fund, a Canvey charity that supports youngsters with cancer, has been entered into a Chelsea competition to win the chance of fundraising at the club’s next match.

If chosen, the charity would collect funds at Stamford Bridge on October 15 when the club will be playing Leicester, the reigning Premier League champions.

The Danny Green Fund was launched in July 2012 by the family of 11-year-old Danny Green, who died after losing his battle with brain and spinal cancer.

Danny’s mum Lisa Green, 48, of Hallet Road, Canvey, said that he was a football fanatic and a Chelsea fan.

People can vote for the charity online and voting closes on October 2.

Lisa added: “We got a call out of the blue from the football club who said they wanted us to apply for the chance to fundraise at the match.

“We were so surprised but it is lovely to know that such a big football club knows about our charity.

“Danny adored football and Chelsea was one of his favourite clubs so this would have meant such a lot to him,

“We sent off an application with information about our charity with details about what we do and I then received a call on Friday from the club to confirm that we had made it through to the selection stage to be nominated by the public.

“Just to know that we have made it through to the selection stage is amazing in itself as there are some big names and charities in the running to win the chance to fundraise at the match.”

Mrs Green added that the charity really needs all the support of the community to try to win the competiton,
