A TEENAGERhad his phone and wallet stolen in a violent attack on the island.

The youngster, believed to be about 18, was set on by three others who kicked and stamped on him while in the Canvey Lake area.

He was taken to A&E where he needed a facial X-Ray but luckily came to no serious harm.

Beverley Cooper posted on Facebook: “A young boy has been robbed near Canvey Lake.

“They ran off with his phone and wallet towards Hilton Road.

“I was in bed when I heard shouting so I went out to see what was going on.

“He was a young boy, about 18.

“He said ‘I’ve been robbed’.

“He put his bike which had been broken in my garden and said his dad was coming to get him.

“He said it was three boys that were involved in the attack on him.”

The boy’s father said his son’s wallet and iPhone had been taken in the attack.

“He went to hospital and had a scan and had a facial X-ray,” he posted on Facebook.

Residents reacted angrily to the news of the robbery, with many labelling it as “shocking” and “awful”.

There has been concerns from islanders about the number of serious incidents on the island in the last couple of months.

On August 6, two people were shot in Somnes Avenue.

Just four days earlier two men, one armed with a knife, stormed into a Canvey home demanding cash.

A week before, on Tuesday, July 26, two gunmen wearing balaclavas walked into the Winter Gardens Post Office, in Central Avenue, Canvey, and demanded cash from terrified staff.

The Echo revealed that Essex Police will be assigning extra police resources to the island to reassure residents.

The island’s police station was controversially closed in April as part of widespread police cuts, but a mobile police station will be brought to various streets on the island to tackle problem areas.

There will also be high-visibility and covert patrols on the island.

This latest incident, which happened last Friday, has not been reported to the police.
