COLLEAGUES of a murdered horse groom will release 100 balloons into the sky on the anniversary of her death.

Staff and volunteers will gather at the Essex Horse and Pony Sanctuary, in Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, after it closes to the public on Sunday to mark a year since Laura Davies was killed.

Animal lover Laura, 21, was stabbed 81 times by controlling boyfriend Jordan Taylor on Friday, July 3, last year, after she decided to break up with him.

The pair were living together in the grounds of the sanctuary after Laura took in Taylor, 22, who had been made homeless.

He was convicted of murder and jailed for a minimum of 23 years in January.

Sue Allery, sanctuary manager, said the special tribute evening had been organised so colleagues could pay tribute and reminisce.

As well as a barbecue, staff will lay flowers and release the balloons, all marked with a picture of Laura.

The balloons have been donated by Laura’s mum Dyanne Lambert, who will be holding her own private event to mark the anniversary.

Ms Allery said: “We want to sit and remember Laura and chat about her and all the silly things she used to.

“We want her to know that she won’t ever be forgotten.”

A plaque dedicated to Laura is proudly displayed in the visitor information centre at the sanctuary, surrounded by pictures and competition rosettes.

A special Laura Davies trophy has also been created, and is handed out in competitions to the best rescue horse.

Paying tribute, Ms Allery said: “It is such a massive waste of her life.

“She was such a good girl - she was utterly unique.

“Her dedication to all the animals was absolutely amazing. She was very intelligent and lovely.

“She will always be part of the sanctuary, she will never be forgotten.”
