FROM the sky, the familiar landscape of Leigh looks the same now as it did 40 years ago.

But, as these pictures from the Echo archive show, the area has undergone some significant changes from the 1970s to the present day.

But, while some shop names have been consigned to the past, there are many street views which will be familiar to modern-day residents.
