A SCOUT group has won a £1,000 grant to help provide more activities for young people.

The1st Hullbridge Scout Group, based in Ferry Road, Hullbridge, has been awarded the cash from One Stop’s Carriers for Causes fund.

The money raised from the Government’s 5p carrier bag charge, with convenience store chain using the extra cash to launch a new fund to support good causes within local community, as well as environmental projects.

Kevin Potter, group scout leader, said: “The funding from the ‘Carriers for Causes’ has allowed the Scout Group to expand the opportunities for the young people to develop their appreciation of the outdoor environment, key skills in social development through the benefits of night away experiences in a safe and secure environment.

“To achieve this aim the Scout Group has been able to replace group tents with purchase of new tents from Go Outdoors who did us some cracking deals enabling the group to maximise the benefit of this grant.

“On behalf of 1st Hullbridge Scout Group a massive thanks to One Stop and members of the Hullbridge One Stop store who supported the group’s application for this grant.”

Some of the first young people to benefit from the new tents will be members of the Cubs, who will be attending the Cub Centenary Camp celebrating 100 years of Cubs.
