ANGRY neighbours are calling for a clamp down on nuisance fly-tippers dumping household rubbish and kitchen appliances.

Furniture has also been dumped in Merricks Lane, Vange, leading to calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

Kerry Smith, Independent councillor for Nethermayne ward, believes unlicensed collectors disposing of items they have taken from homes.

He said: “We have had fly tipping in the area in the past but it seems to be getting worse.

“I think what is happening here is that illegal refuse collection companies are operating by collecting unwanted goods and rubbish and dumping the rubbish and collected items in country lanes and residential streets.

“I think these companies don’t have refuse collection licenses, which is illegal.

“I think it is easy for these people to collect rubbish and unwanted items when residents and people are having a clear out and collect their items and then just dump the rubbish wherever they like.”

Angry residents said action is needed to stop the fly-tippers.

A father of two, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I have been aware of this problem for some time.

“It looks terrible and I think some people need to have more pride in where they live and others need to help to look after where we live.”

A Basildon Council spokesman said: “Basildon Council has been made aware of the fly-tipping incidents, but cannot comment on individual cases.

“The public are advised to report incidents of fly-tipping via the council’s website and officers will investigate and clear rubbish within 48 hours.

“The public can rest assured we take fly-tipping very seriously and act whenever complaints are made, and where we can identify the perpetrators and the council will take legal action against them.”
