TWO men were rushed to hospital after being injured in a crash outside Thorpe Bay station.

Three vehicles were involved in the smash by the pedestrian crossing along the Broadway, Thorpe Bay, at about 12.30pm yesterday.

Part of Station Road was closed by police while the accident, involving a Ford Fiesta, a Range Rover, and a Subaru, was cleared.

Two ambulances and a rapid response car rushed to the scene after a member of the public called the emergency services.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, both men were conscious and breathing.

One, aged in his thirties, was complaining of head and chest pain, while the other, in his sixties, had spinal injuries.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We treated two patients at the scene. Both were conscious and breathing.

“Both were male, one was in his early sixties and the other was in his early thirties. The male in his sixties was treated for spinal injuries and needed immobilising for his own safety.

“The patient in his early thirties was treated for head injuries and chest related injuries from the air bag deployment.”

Both casualties were taken to Southend Hospital for treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening
