Rochford’s Summer Solstice Festival runs from June 19 to June 21. The event, being held at the Marlborough Head, in West Street, is expected to attract both young and old.

The festival will showcase live music, and there will be a fine selection of drinks, as well as a barbecue.

Joanne Clark, landlady of the Marlborough Head, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming people to our celebration over the summer solstice weekend.

“It’s free to get in and we are hoping people will along to try some fine ales and ciders from around the UK, while enjoying some music from local artists outside in our beer garden.”

Joanne has gained advice from local members of Camra to ensure a great selection of fine ales and ciders are sourced to suit all tastes.

She also consulted Wayne Fessey, who organised the first festival last year.

Wayne said: “The first festival was so well supported that when Joanne asked me if I would like to run the event again, but this time it will be held in the secluded garden of the pub, I thought it will be an ideal venue and people would love to come along.

“It was such a great weekend and I want to recreate a similar combination in a safe and relaxed atmosphere.”

Live music is being provided by some of the best musicians and bands in Essex, but will also feature up-andcoming acts such as singer Sarah Reeves, who is only 12, as well as the band Stonewolf, founded by local schoolboy Jack Browning, from Westcliff. The initiative started at last year’s event and is designed to encourage the next generation of local musical talent.

Wayne added: “I thought we should continue to encourage some of the local youngsters to develop their talents by giving them a chance to play to a live audience. The crowd will be amazed at just how good these boys and girls are.”

With so many acts lined-up, and DJ Johnny B supplying the sounds between acts, there will plenty to keep guests entertained.

The family-friendly festival starts from noon on both days.
