MOTHERWELL star Danny Murphy finally reckons he's getting up to speed with the pace of the SPL.

The London-born left-back set up the only goal of Saturday's game against Inverness when his free-kick from the edge of the box found Scott McDonald's head.

But the 24-year-old admits adjusting to the Scottish game following his January switch from Cork has not been easy.

The tough-tackling defender said: "The pace of the game is so much quicker. It was hard to get used to.

"I had a little more time on the ball against Inverness than I normally do. That helped get better delivery into the box.

"I have always taken set pieces. Scott told me where to put it and as soon as I saw him running I knew where to put it."

Caley had won their last five games at Fir Park, but Murphy believes Well are harder for teams to beat now.

"We have worked more on our shape in training and not been conceding as many goals," he said.

Well travel to Love Street tomorrow six points behind sixth-placed Kilmarnock with two games in hand.

Manager Maurice Malpas said: "It's a must-win game. After that we have got a wee chance of seeing if we can get into the top six."

Dundee United skipper Barry Robson warned the Tangerines must improve their home form if they want to keep progressing.

The Taysiders leapfrogged Well and Inverness despite a goalless draw at home against Hibernian. But Robson is adamant United must do better on their own turf.

However, the 28-year-old thinks that will only happen if Craig Levein's side are able to play on a vastly-improved pitch, given the horrendous state of their current surface.

He said: "Against Hibs it was always going to take a bit of magic for anybody to win the game. But when you see the pitch it is not easy to do that."
