A FAIRY godmother has waved her magic wand over a theatre to celebrate its £1.75million revamp.

Glasgow dance school The Dance Foundation is staging a lavish modern production of Sleeping Beauty at Eastwood Park Theatre, in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.

A cast of 175 ballerinas, hip hop stars and tap dancers have combined to put on the dazzling display with 17-year-old Alex Walters, from Newton Mearns, in the leading role.

From tiny tots to professional-level dancers, the show - which is on tonight and tomorrow - promises to be an entrancing night out.

The cast, from across Glasgow's South Side, have been rehearsing for months to make sure the show goes to plan.

Dance teacher Margaret Simpson has been working since October to ensure all the dancers know their steps.

She said: "It's very challenging to get 175 dancers working together.

"It takes a long time, especially with the baby ballerinas, to learn the steps and co-ordinate the dances.

"Luckily we have a lot of support from the parents, who helped to make the costumes and run the show."

The theatre has been completely refurbished over the past year, with a partial demolition and re-build.

The venue now includes new steel and glass frontage, a lift for disabled access, and a new bar, cafe and exhibition galley.

Margaret said: "The production is the culmination of many months of work, and we are all looking forward to performing in the fabulous new-look theatre."

The show is the first amateur production to run at the theatre since it re-opened on February 22.
