MAYBE it's the Mamma Mia! juggernaut rolling on, but last night Hollywood went to Greece for its style inspiration ... with just a hint of last night of the proms.

Grecian gowns and full-skirted prom dresses were out in force on the red carpet for the 66th annual Golden Globe Awards.

Ugly Betty's Salma Hayek was among the stars who worked a full-length goddess look to perfection.

There were hints of ancient influences as Angelina Jolie dispensed with mother earth' kaftans of late in favour of a simple, flowing singlet dress.

The charge for the proms was led by Anne Hathaway, looking simply sensational in midnight blue.

A-list stars to opt for more structure at the Beverly Hilton's glittering bash included the slashed-thigh gown of Beyonce, and the Oscar-tastic glamour of Eva Longoria Parker's dramatic red fishtail.

Award presenter Drew Barrymore was a hit in a whimsical powder blue dress, contrasting with the play-it-safe LBD of Kate Winslet.

Amid the flurry of colour and flowing fabrics, a few wardrobe decisions registered wide of the mark: Cameron Diaz's crumpled salmon effort, and the frankly schizophrenic ensemble of Renee Zellweger.
