A WATCHDOG called today for the Scottish Government to do more to encourage energy efficiency in the public sector.
Consumption in public buildings fell by nearly 5% in the three years to 2007, said Audit Scotland, as price rises saw bills leap by nearly 48%.
There is also a need for guidance by the Scottish Government on how to improve energy efficiency, as well as "robust" monitoring.
Auditor-general Robert Black said: "Improving energy efficiency can be one of the easiest ways to enhance the public sector's contribution to addressing the challenges of climate change."
