A hospital nurse who gave out incorrect medication and failed to respond correctly to a patient’s heart attack will face a disciplinary hearing.

Kai Price is charged with 14 counts of misconduct while working at Southend Hospital between September 2012 and February 2014.

He is accused of failing to demonstrate “the standards of knowledge, skill and judgement required to practice without supervision”.

It is alleged Mr Price phoned the wrong number when he should have rang the cardiac arrest team when a patient suffered a heart attack in July 2013.

After another patient suffered a fall, the nurse is accused of failing to record the incident, report the incident to colleagues or arrange for a doctor to review the patient.

Mr Price is charged with failing to prepare a room for a patient’s end of life care, as instructed by a colleague.

He also faces a series of other accusations, including administering the wrong medication to a patient awaiting surgery, giving medication to a patient who had already received their dosage, and making incorrect entries on patient records.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing, starting on March 6, will decide if Mr Price can continue to work as a nurse.
