THERE will be a treat for the taste buds at this year’s Apple Day.

The event is free, and will take place on Saturday, from 11am until 3pm, at St Laurence Orchard, Eastwoodbury Lane, to raise money for Westcliff and Shoeburybased charity, Trust Links.

The charity runs community projects focused around outdoor events to help the mentally ill and people with learning difficulties.

Matthew King, Trust Links chief executive, said: “It’s a chance to enjoy the heritage, beautiful landscape of the area and to meet other people.”

Families can go applepicking, and tasting or go on a wildlife trail and scavenger hunt.

Mr King added: “There isn’t a lot of community support for those with mental health problems.

“Through our work we know we have a really positive impact on people.

“We need to work hard to raise money.”

South East Essex Organic Gardeners are partnered with the charity to run the day.
