POLICE are hunting three suspected arsonists after a flat fire in Eastwood.
Residents had to be evacuated as the flat in a block in Coniston, Eastwood, went up in flames at about 8.30pm yesterday.
Officers believe the fire was started deliberately, and the incident is now being dealt with as arson with intent to endanger life.
Police want to speak to three people who were seen leaving the flats at the time.
Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Anna Gifford, said: "Luckily no one was injured in this fire, but it could have been much more serious.
“I really need to speak to anyone who saw these three men leaving the block of flats at the time, or who has any information which could help the investigation.”
The flat was completely smoke logged.
Two crews from Southend used a hose and a jet to tackle the fire, which was out by about 9.30pm.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at Southend on 101.
