A drunk driver who crashed into a bollard after becoming drowsy behind the wheel has been banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay £745.

Ju-young Ahn, of Fleetside, West Molesey, was arrested on January 17, following the crash in Hampton Court Road while driving back from a night out with friends in Kingston.

He was found to be just over the drink-drive limit when arrested and admitted he had been drinking.

Ahn, 29, said: “I just want to say I’m sorry. I feel I have let myself down and my family and my friends. It was a very bad day.”

Ahn was fined £600, ordered to pay £85 costs, £60 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 12 months at South Western Magistrates’ Court on March 27.

His ban will be reduced to nine months if he completes a drink-driver awareness course by October 27, 2013.
