A NINE year old girl has been growing her locks for a year - to cut them off for charity.

Ella Vallely, a pupil at St Nicholas School, Rayleigh, had her her waist length hair cut off on Saturday.

She has been getting sponsorship for the task and has raised £550 for the Little Princesses Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children suffering with hair loss through cancer treatment.

Ella is no stranger to charity work she is a Pearly Princess of the City of London with her older sister Mia, 12, and they raise money for nominated charities and each year takes part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research.

Her mum Vanessa Vallely, 40, said: “I sponsored another child to do something similar and told Ella about it and she said she wanted to do it.

“I hope that she will inspire other children to continue to raise money for charity.”

When asked why she wished to donate her hair, Ella said: “My hair will grow back one day, but these ill children may have to wait for years, every little girl deserves beautiful hair.”
