I was down at Leigh last week, for the first time in years.
There was only one of the Cockle sheds open. The Estuary Fish Merchants.

I must admit that a lot of people who I know from Leigh can be quite scathing about Southend which then gives them an air of superiority,although us Southenders can smirk at their house prices tumbling as Easyjet fly over.

Actually there are ten Tesco between Shoebury and Eastwood.

Old Leigh is a wonderful example of the English heritage that is these days far too rare and we are all too quickly losing.
We visit Leigh two or three times a week and love the place and would live there if it were possible for us, we are not snobs, we are not rich, we live soley on a state pension.
The only part of Leigh that should be bulldozed is that horrible ugly Boatyard that is an eyesore and unfitting to the surroundings.
The Peterboat owners are displaying the too often modern trend for greed and power. We sincerly hope their plan fails and true lovers of English hetritage will boycot this establishment.

The memories of old Leigh could fill a thimble. It's a worthless place.
But I'm glad you can at least concede that the boatyard is a putrid eyesore and should be demolished.

I am PLEASED to say I have Wonderful memories of Leigh-on-Sea and its cockle sheds, and so Much so, I have a jigsaw featuring them back in days of steam on the LT&SR, NOT C2C as it is now known. (REAL trains.)

As i said i have nothing against the majority of people who live in southend or the place, people have to live somewhere i choose to live in leigh and i do not judge or criticise others for where they choose to live.. but it seems that you do and that is a definition of a snob.
